Ukraine - Draft law penalizing the “promotion” of homosexuality (October 5, 2012)
France strongly condemns any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
We are concerned by the adoption, at first reading, by the Ukrainian Parliament of a draft law imposing a prison term of up to 5 years for what it calls “homosexual propaganda.” This draft law constitutes a clear violation of the freedom of expression.
France calls on the Ukrainian authorities to comply with their international commitments relating to the protection of human rights. France, in collaboration with its European partners, is continuing to closely monitor the situation in Ukraine and is considering how to respond in the most effective way.
