We welcome the arrest of Caesar Acellam, one of the leaders of the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army), by Ugandan forces on May 12.
France welcomes this further blow to a terrorist movement that has increased the level of crimes and abuse in the region.
This arrest again shows the importance of the regional coordination that is being implemented under the auspices of the African Union, with the support of the United States, the EU and the UN. In this context, France continues to support the Central African Armed Forces through substantial and continuous military cooperation aimed at strengthening their operational capacity, notably within the framework of the fight against the LRA.
We hope that these combined efforts will lead to the swift arrest of the leader of the LRA, Joseph Kony, as well as other senior members of this movement sought by the International Criminal Court.
