Military and defence cooperation is based on a framework agreement signed in January 2000.
In terms of security, cooperation is based on a bilateral agreement signed in February 1998. Cooperation has developed considerably in recent years, thanks to the establishment of a new expanded system, which, in addition to domestic security attachés, comprises an immigration liaison officer. It is in line with the context of France’s support of Turkey in its undertaking to adopt Community acquis.
Bilateral cooperation primarily concerns the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking (the French police force is a partner to “Tadoc”, the academy for the fight against organized crime), illegal immigration, infringement as well as law enforcement training. This cooperation takes on different forms: joint operational activities, consulting, training actions.
