Tunisia – Assassination of Mohamed Brahmi (July 25, 2013)
Yesterday, President Hollande utterly condemned the horrific assassination of opposition leader Mohamed Brahmi, elected to the National Constituent Assembly in 2011, and founder and former secretary general of the People’s Party.
The assassination of Mohamed Brahmi, like that of Chokri Belaid, cannot go unpunished. Full light must be shed on these crimes which, as the minister of foreign affairs reaffirmed yesterday, are aimed at sabotaging the democratic transition in Tunisia and the process of achieving national unity.
During his state visit to Tunisia from July 4 to 5, President Hollande reaffirmed our country’s support for the transition under way and its solidarity with all Tunisians attached to the values of the revolution. He also called for the spirit of responsibility needed to preserve national unity and ensure the success of the democratic transition, which involves the adoption of a constitution and the holding of elections by the end of the year.
