Photos of the Caesar report - thousands of unbearable photos, authenticated by many experts, that show corpses tortured and starved to death in the prisons of the Syrian regime - testify to the systematic cruelty of the regime of Bashar al-Assad. The victims are ordinary people - men, women, children.
Faced with these crimes that deeply shock the conscience of humanity, confronted with this bureaucratic horror, and with this denial of the values of humanity, it is our responsibility to act to put an end to impunity for such murderers. The French authorities have been recipients of several thousand pictures of the Caesar report.
Given the seriousness of the facts, I decided to transmit these photos to the French justice, to enable it to exploit them and decide what action to take, including possible criminal prosecution.
France also calls on the United Nations, in particular the International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, to pursue with a strengthened determination its investigation of the Caesar files.
