Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophony, will today participate in the 3rd international donor conference for Syria.
The Syrian crisis has caused the death of 220,000 people, driven 10 million Syrians from their homes and threatens to destabilize the entire region. This third donor conference aims to respond to the humanitarian crisis affecting millions of displaced persons and refugees and to respond to the needs of the neighboring countries that are receiving refugees.
Since the start of the crisis, France has mobilized more than €100 million in humanitarian assistance and development projects to help the Syrian people and the neighboring countries. Mr. Laurent Fabius, who chaired a meeting in New York on March 27 at the Security Council on Eastern Christians and other minorities under threat in the Middle East, proposed establishing a fund to assist returning refugees.
The only way to put an end to this humanitarian tragedy is through a political transition in Syria.
