Polio vaccination campaign in Syria (January 7, 2014)
A polio (poliomyelitis) vaccination campaign began on 2 January 2014 in the seven northern and eastern Governorates of Syria (Al-Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor, Ar-Raqqah, Aleppo, Idlib, Lattakia and Hama).
This vaccination campaign is funded by the Polio Control Task Force, within which the Health Team of the Syrian National Coalition’s Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU) plays a driving role. It involves various associations, including the Union of Syrian Medical Relief Organizations (UOSSM).
Since the conflict broke out, France has been providing considerable financial and logistical support to Syrian solidarity networks (ACU, local civilian councils, doctors’ networks, etc.) to support populations.
