Q - Could you clarify your position regarding the Russian proposal to “very swiftly” call for an international conference on Syria, as outlined by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Saturday, which would include, among other countries, Iran? Thank you.

A - We already expressed our opinion regarding these questions. We will have further exchanges with Russia this week with respect to this issue.

We are coordinating with all our partners in the international community who support the effective implementation of the 6-point plan of the Joint Special Envoy, Kofi Annan, aimed at ensuring a democratic transition that will respond to the aspirations of the Syrian people.

It is also with this goal in mind that the minister of foreign affairs announced the holding of the next meeting of the Friends of the Syrian People group in Paris on July 6.

With respect to Iran, please refer to the statements issued by Mr. Laurent Fabius, who made his views on this matter very clear at the meeting on Syria in Istanbul on Wednesday.
