Syria (Q&A - Excerpt from the daily press briefing - June 6, 2012)
Q : This morning, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad tasked Riyad Hijab with forming a new government following the parliamentary elections in May. Do you have any response?
R : Bashar al-Assad remains stubbornly deaf to the demands of his people. Following the sham “parliamentary elections” last month, this appointment is another cop-out, a charade, which does not meet the expectations of the Syrian people or the international community.
The regime must urgently stop massacring its people and commit to implementing Kofi Annan’s plan.
