“Action Group” for Syria (Q&A - Excerpt from the daily press briefing - June 27, 2012)
Q : Will Laurent Fabius go to Geneva on Saturday for a meeting of the “Action Group” for Syria advocated by Kofi Annan? What are you expecting from this meeting?
A : As we said, a meeting of the Action Group envisaged by Mr. Kofi Annan, should establish a common position on a credible political solution to the Syrian tragedy: in practical terms, the Action Group should agree on the principles and stages of a democratic transition in Syria as well as on the priority attached to ending the crackdown and ensuring unrestricted access to humanitarian assistance by the civilian population.
If this meeting in Geneva on Saturday is confirmed, this is the message that France will convey, as it will on July 6 at the meeting of the Friends of Syria Group in Paris.
