Sudan – Attack on the African Union/UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (December 29, 2013)
France condemns the new attack carried out on December 29 on a patrol by the African Union-UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), which resulted in the deaths of a Senegalese soldier and a Jordanian soldier.
We offer our condolences to the families of the victims and to the Senegalese and Jordanian authorities. We urge the Sudanese government to guarantee the security of UNAMID personnel and to swiftly investigate this matter in order to bring those responsible for the attacks to justice.
France is concerned by the significant deterioration in the security situation in Darfur, where the intensification of fighting led to the displacement of more than 460,000 people in 2013. It reaffirms its support for UNAMID’s efforts and for the nations that are helping to consolidate peace in Darfur.
