Attack against a UNAMID patrol (January 23, 2012)
France utterly condemns the attack against a UNAMID (African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur) patrol which took place on Saturday in Darfur, killing a UNAMID soldier and injuring several others.
It commends the work carried out on a daily basis by these soldiers and their key role in protecting civilians and displaced persons in Darfur.
France reaffirms its full support for UNAMID’s work to ensure the security of the civilian populations in Darfur. It calls on the Sudanese authorities to shed full light on this cowardly attack against a peacekeeping force and to put an end to the impunity that prevails in this region by bringing those responsible for this attack to justice as swiftly as possible.
