Darfur – Attack against a village by a militia group (november 5, 2012)
France condemns the attack against the village of Sigili on November 2 by a militia group which resulted in the death of 13 people according to the latest reports.
We extend our condolences to the bereaved.
France urges the Sudanese authorities to swiftly bring to justice those responsible for this unacceptable attack which violated all rules of international law.
We also express our incomprehension at the blocking by the Sudanese army of a patrol of UNAMID, a peacekeeping operation deployed in Darfur, as it was traveling to the site to investigate the circumstances of the attack and to help the civilian victims. The Sudanese authorities have an obligation to ensure UNAMID’s freedom of movement.
