Somalia - Adoption by the Transitional Federal Government of an action plan to end the killing and maiming of children (August 10, 2012)
France welcomes the adoption by Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government of an action plan to eliminate the killing and maiming of children. This plan is an important step toward improving the protection of Somali children’s rights.
Protecting children’s rights is one of France’s human rights priorities. France is striving to universalize the Convention on the Rights of the Child. It urges Somalia to complete the process for ratifying this instrument, which has already been ratified by nearly all UN member states.
France is also committed to the fight against recruiting and using child soldiers, notably in the context of the implementation of The Paris Principles and Commitments to Protect Children Unlawfully Recruited or Used by Armed Forces or Armed Groups endorsed by 100 states to date, including Somalia.
