Main French visits to Saint Lucia

No French ministerial visit in recent years.

Economic relations

The few French companies present in Saint Lucia work in the environmental, tourism and agrifood sectors.

Cultural, scientific and technical cooperation

The French regional cooperation service, competent for the Eastern Caribbean and Jamaica, is based in Saint Lucia.

The teaching of French and cultural exchanges are a major aspect of our bilateral cooperation. A June 2012 agreement between the Martinique education authority and the Saint Lucia Ministry of Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development provides for the provision of a teacher and encourages exchanges of training. The Alliance française has around 510 students, and contributed to the “linguistic pact” between Saint Lucia and the International Organisation of La Francophonie, signed in 2011. Moreover, cultural exchanges with Martinique and, to a lesser extent, Guadeloupe, have developed in liaison with the Regional Cultural Affairs Directorates (DRACs) and operators of the French communities in the Americas.

The Agence française de développement (AFD, French Development Agency) is also active in Saint Lucia, but the country’s debt levels limit possibilities to fund loan-based projects.
