Russia - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (22 June 2017)

Q - The response you gave yesterday regarding a possible easing of European sanctions against Russia in order to facilitate dialogue with Moscow leaves some doubt about your position. Does this mean that there’s some debate about France’s position regarding the effectiveness of European sanctions against Russia?

A - The economic sanctions adopted by the EU against Russia are tied to the implementation of the Minsk Agreements.

President Macron and the German chancellor will present a review of this during the European Council on June 22 and 23.

This topic should be discussed in close coordination with Germany, with which we are working in the framework of the Normandy format, and with all of our European partners.

Q - Can you comment on the incident involving the head of the Rosoboronexport delegation, who was attacked in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) when he came back from the Paris Air Show? Did the Ministry of Foreign Affairs receive a diplomatic note from the Russian embassy? What are you planning to do?

A - An investigation was launched immediately following this incident, which we deplore. The Russian authorities will be kept informed of the results of the investigation.
