Russia – Human Rights - Situation of LGBTI people in Chechnya (12 avril 2017)

France is concerned by the numerous reports in recent days by the press and NGOs detailing the repression and in some cases the torture of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex individuals (LGBTI) in Chechnya.

We call on the Russian Federation to condemn the responses of the Chechen authorities who, by denying the very existence of homosexuality or implying that such people can be killed by their families, are fostering a climate of impunity. There must be a full investigation into these serious violations of human rights guaranteed by several international instruments that Russia has freely signed.

France is working relentlessly to ensure that all individuals are accorded equal rights and dignity regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity
