Russia – WTO (August 22, 2012)
Today, Russia officially becomes the 156th member of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
We welcome this accession which sanctions the entry of a major partner into this organization. We see it as a reflection of Russia’s increasing willingness to be included in an international standards system.
By guaranteeing the application of common trade rules, membership of the WTO will promote Russia’s integration into international trade and encourage the development of trade and investment opportunities with its partners, namely France and the European Union. This accession should also provide an opportunity to give new impetus to the negotiations between Russia and the EU on a new agreement.
