In the area of defence:

Bilateral relations are based on an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the area of defence, signed on 30 July 1999. A bilateral meeting is organized every 18 months at the level of the Defence Staff.

On the whole, the assessment of our cooperation is satisfactory, even though it remains modest due to Portugal’s budgetary inflexibility. It includes government visits, regular politico-military exchanges, targeted cooperation actions in different fields, the dissemination of our organizational models.

In the area of internal security:

Since 3 December 2010, our relations have been based on a bilateral agreement on internal security.

A trusting and fruitful relationship has been established.
