Myanmar – Signing of the additional protocol to the safeguards agreement with the IAEA (September 17, 2013)
France welcomes the signing on September 17 by Myanmar of an additional protocol to its safeguards agreement with the IAEA. The signing of this protocol supports the positive reform process under way in the country which France encourages.
This text is a legal instrument that is key to allowing the IAEA to fulfil its verification mission regarding the nuclear non-proliferation commitments. 121 states have signed an additional protocol. We are pleased to note this increase and urge the states that have not yet done so to ratify such a protocol as swiftly as possible.
France supports the IAEA’s action and reaffirms its attachment to the principles of universality and strengthened safeguards.
