France is an important country for Moldova: we are one of the Member States with the longest-standing representation in Chisinau and the only foreign country to have a cultural network of any size (French remains the number one foreign language practiced in Moldova).
In terms of political contacts, the most recent ministerial visits include those by Mr. Pierre Lellouche, Secretary of State for European Affairs to Chisinau on November 11th and 12th, 2009, and Mr. Iurie Leanca, Moldovan Foreign Affairs Minister, who paid a working visit to Paris on June 3rd and 4th, 2010.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat, paid a working visit to France from April 12th to 14th, 2011, during which he held talks with the Prime Minister, the President of the National Assembly, and the Secretary-General of the International Francophone Organization. Mr. Leanca met with Mr. Juppe, and their German and Polish counterparts, as part of Weimar Triangle meeting held on May 20th, 2011.
There are also regular parliamentary contacts, particularly through the Friendship groups in the National Assembly and Senate. Mr. Marian Lupu, then Speaker of Parliament, made two trips to Paris in October 2006 and January 2008. The President of the Senate, Mr. Christian Poncelet, visited Chisinau in April 2007.
