As a neighbor through Reunion, France maintains a strong, quality relationship with Port-Louis. The Prime Minister saved Paris for his first official visit after re-election (August 30th-September 1st, 2010).
The only serious shadow in our relations, the disputed sovereignty over the islet of Tromelin, is on the way to being dissipated with the signature, on June 7th, 2010, of an innovative bilateral sector co-management agreement. This agreement is being considered by Parliament.
The Prime Minister’s visit to France, in 2010, was an opportunity to deepen new avenues of partnership, with regards to sustainable development and renewable energy, security (combatting maritime piracy) and strengthening the Indian Ocean Commission’s (IOC) economic and commercial dimensions.
The Mauritian Prime Minister’s visit to Reunion (January 24th-25th, 2011) was highly appreciated, as well as the visit by the Secretary of State for French Nationals Abroad, during the Indian Ocean Commission Council of Ministers meeting in October 2011.
