In the area of defence cooperation and in the context of inter-Baltic cooperation, France intervenes essentially in the logistics and naval fields. Bilateral cooperation, which is based on a technical arrangement signed in 1994, primarily concerns training, exchanges of experts, joint war operations in mines and national navy stopovers.
In February 2009, General Georgelin, Chief of Defence Staff, went to Lithuania at the invitation of his Lithuanian counterpart. From April through July 2007 and from January 2010 through March 2010, in the context of NATO, France took its turn monitoring the Baltic air space. It should carry out this mission again in spring of 2011.
