Libya – Violence in Tripoli (November 15 to 16, 2013)
France condemns the violence that left many civilians dead in Tripoli on November 15 and 16. It extends its condolences to the victims’ families and expresses its solidarity with the injured.
We’re concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Libya and call on all parties to demonstrate restraint. We’re mobilized to help strengthen the Libyan security forces. As the minister of foreign affairs indicated when he attended the Regional Ministerial Meeting on Border Security in Rabat on November 14, France is notably supporting Libya by helping to train police officers.
France reaffirms its unwavering support for the transition process and for the legitimate authorities appointed by the Libyan people in the elections on July 7, 2012. We reaffirm the need for national dialogue in accordance with the principles of the revolution of February 17, which is the only way to establish the rule of law and build new institutions in keeping with the aspirations of the Libyan people.
