Lebanon – Attacks (August 23, 2013)

France strongly condemns the car bomb attacks that took place today in Tripoli in northern Lebanon which, according to provisional reports, killed 27 people and injured several hundred others.

It extends its condolences to the victims’ families and calls on the Lebanese authorities to prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes.

France condemns any attempt to compromise Lebanon’s stability and underscores the importance for all Lebanese actors of respecting President Suleiman’s policy of dissociation in Lebanon and of preserving national unity.

Lebanon must not allow itself to be dragged into a spiral of violence inherited from the Syrian crisis.
