Kuwait – Meeting between the Minister and her Kuwaiti counterpart, during his visit to Paris (27 June 2023)

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mme Catherine Colonna, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, H.E. Sheikh Salem al-Sabah, had a meeting in Paris on 27 June 2023.

The Minister and her counterpart signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a strategic dialogue at ministerial level between the two countries which they will soon co-chair. The ministers agreed to strengthen the bilateral relationship in every sphere of cooperation, in particular the economy and investment, culture and the fight against climate change. During the visit, several agreements were signed in the fields of development, administrative cooperation and military training.

The Minister and her counterpart discussed Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine and its consequences in terms of energy and food security, as well as regional issues including Lebanon and the next summit for regional stability in the Baghdad format. They reiterated France and Kuwait’s shared commitment to a multilateral system based on international law, as well as to peace and stability in the Middle East. The ministers agreed to continue their close consultation on these issues.
