Kosovo (Q&A - Excerpt from the daily press briefing - January 18, 2012)
A : The dialogue between the authorities in Serbia and Kosovo, facilitated by the EU since March 2011, has led to some initial positive results, notably with respect to the free movement of persons. By normalizing the relations between Serbia and Kosovo, this progress enhances the European prospects of these two countries.
France strongly supports the continuation of dialogue and urges the two parties to remain engaged in a constructive and pragmatic manner in order to reach new agreements.
Any attempt to stall or derail the dialogue process is contrary to the interests of the people of Kosovo and Serbia. The holding-up of goods at the border is contrary to the principle of free movement of goods stipulated under the regional free trade agreement, CEFTA, and constitutes an obstacle to the continuation of constructive dialogue between the two parties.
France urges all parties to demonstrate a sense of responsibility and calls for the cessation of these blockade measures.
