End of Kosovo's supervised independence (September 11, 2012)
France welcomes the decision on September 10 to put an end to the supervised independence of Kosovo by the International Civilian Office.
This Office was established in 2008, following Kosovo’s declaration of independence, in order to supervise the implementation by Kosovo of the provisions of the “Ahtisaari Plan” to achieve a comprehensive settlement of the status of Kosovo.
This decision recognizes the progress made by Kosovo since its independence, notably with respect to minorities.
This is a milestone which reflects the consolidation of the new State and which will strengthen its integration prospects on the international stage.
