Appointment of Ambassador Jean-Claude Schlumberger as Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo (september 10, 2012)
We welcome the appointment by the Irish Chair-in-Office of the OSCE of Ambassador Jean-Claude Schlumberger as Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo (OMIK).
OMIK is the OSCE’s largest field mission. It operates within the framework of UNSCR 1244 and has 667 staff members and a budget of €22 million for 2012. Its operations aim to establish a responsible and transparent public security apparatus, support the democratization of the institutions and encourage the central and local authorities to respect human rights and the rights of persons belonging to minority communities. The role it played during the Serbian presidential and parliamentary elections in May was essential and was appreciated by all parties.
France again confirms its commitment to Kosovo and regional stability. It actively supports EU action in Kosovo and maintains a presence in KFOR and within the EULEX mission, currently being led by General Xavier Bout de Marnhac. The French authorities will lend their full support to Mr. Schlumberger in his efforts to accomplish his mission.
