Japan – Execution of two detainees (September 27, 2012)
France expresses its regret at the execution today in Japan of two detainees, Sachiko Eto and Yukinori Matsuda.
While Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is preparing to launch a campaign in support of the universal abolition of the death penalty, France reaffirms its constant opposition to the death penalty, everywhere and under all circumstances.
141 countries have already abolished the death penalty, in law or in fact.
France urges Japan to re-establish the de facto moratorium in place in 2011 and to continue the national debate on the future of the death penalty.
