Japan – Bilateral relations - Political-military dialogue and strategic dialogue (January 6, 2017)

The third session of the political-military dialogue, launched in 2014, took place at the Quai d’Orsay on January 6 and brought together the French and Japanese ministers of foreign affairs and defense.

This session provided an opportunity to discuss the regional crises, notably in the context of North Korea’s troubling attitude, and to step up French-Japanese cooperation in the areas of defense and security.

On the sidelines of this political-military dialogue, Jean-Marc Ayrault, met with his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida.

The two ministers discussed the priorities for our economic partnership with Japan, including cooperation in the civil nuclear sector, as well as our cooperation in the areas of sustainable development and tourism, preparations for major events, such as “Japanism 2018” and the implementation of the French-Japanese plan for sustainable development, health and security in Africa.
