They discussed the follow-up to the Middle East peace conference that took place on January 15. In keeping with this conference, Jean-Marc Ayrault reaffirmed France’s support for the two-state solution, the only just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He also underscored the pressing need for all parties to preserve this solution and to take concrete steps toward re-establishing the conditions for the resumption of dialogue.

During their meeting, Jean-Marc Ayrault and Mahmoud Abbas also took stock of the situation in Jerusalem and in the Palestinian Territories, notably in light of the most recent Israeli announcements regarding settlement activities.

The minister and the Palestinian president discussed French-Palestinian bilateral relations, notably in the cultural, economic, educational spheres and with respect to strengthening the Palestinian Authority’s capacity to carry out public policies. They discussed ways to continue strengthening their relations.
