Israel/ Palestinian Territories (Q&A - Excerpt from the daily press briefing - December 4, 2012)
A : You’ve seen our statements. Those issued by the minister on Saturday, the one issued by the spokesperson yesterday morning and the President’s statement that you mention in coordination with his Italian counterpart yesterday afternoon.
What matters today is the resumption of negotiations. We call on both parties to resume them and we call on them to refrain from any decision that could jeopardize these negotiations.
A : We’ve issued all the statements that we needed to in a very clear manner over the last few days. We have indeed been very clear and what we would like now is for both parties to resume the negotiations. That’s what President Hollande indicated yesterday afternoon together with his Italian counterpart.
A : I don’t want to discuss this any further. We already expressed our views through our messages on settlement activity. We reaffirmed them once again very clearly to the Israeli ambassador yesterday. As President Hollande said, we want the negotiations to resume. “We don’t want to shift into sanctions mode. We are more focused on persuading.” Both parties must refrain from any gesture that could prevent the resumption of negotiations.
