European Union – Israel (Q&A - Excerpt from the daily press briefing - July19, 2013)
A - On Wednesday, the Commission published guidelines in the Official Journal of the European Union on the eligibility of Israeli entities and their activities in the territories occupied by Israel since 1967 for grants, awards and instruments financed by the EU.
These guidelines are intended to apply across the board to the various EU programs and grants for the period 2014-2020. They are only aimed at ensuring that the Israeli settlements do not benefit from these programs and grants.
They thereby implement the EU’s constant political position, expressed on numerous occasions by the Foreign Affairs Council, according to which Israel must – in accordance with international law – be clearly distinguished from the occupied territories.
