Iraq – French humanitarian aid (August 20, 2014)
As Laurent Fabius announced yesterday in the National Assembly, a third French humanitarian aid flight left this morning for Erbil carrying 21 tons of cargo destined for NGOs and the International Organization for Migration. This aid notably includes basic foodstuffs (high-energy biscuits and nutritional supplements), tents and blankets, kitchen sets, generators and medicines.
This third flight is part of the humanitarian airlift agreed upon on August 15 by the European foreign affairs ministers, on Laurent Fabius’s proposal.
A total of 58 tons of humanitarian cargo have been sent since August 10 thanks to the mobilization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development’s Crisis Center, humanitarian associations, Nutriset, the Veolia Foundation and the French association, Tulipe (International Emergency and Solidarity by Healthcare Companies).
France is actively pursuing its efforts to support Iraqi civilians, paying particular attention to the minority groups suffering the abuses perpetrated by the “Islamic State.”
