Iran/ IAEA (Q&A - Excerpt from the daily press briefing - February 22, 2012)

Q - Given your “conditional” response to Iran’s offer of dialogue with the 5+1 and the IAEA’s statements regarding Iran’s refusal to provide the inspectors with access to a military site, what’s your position regarding these questions today?

A - We strongly deplore Iran’s refusal to give the IAEA access to the Parchin site, and to undertake to clarify the numerous questions raised in the Agency’s report, notably that of November 2011.

This is another missed opportunity for Iran.

The IAEA Board of Governors, which will convene on March 5, will of course have to learn from this, while taking into consideration the report that the Agency is due to release in the next few days on the Iranian program.

This refusal to cooperate comes on top of the recent statements issued by Iranian leaders which welcomed the progress achieved in their nuclear activities.

We can only say that all this is contrary to the intentions expressed in Mr. Jalili’s letter received on February 15.
