Q : IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano has just met with the French authorities. What is France’s view regarding the Iranian nuclear issue?

A : Within the framework of his visit to France from November 19 to 20, Yukiya Amano’s discussions with the French authorities notably focused on the proliferation crises.

With respect to Iran, the Iranian nuclear program is still being developed in violation of the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the IAEA Board of Governors. The director general’s report released on November 16 again demonstrates that Iran is continuing to develop new enrichment capacity at its underground Fordow facility.

Despite the Board of Governors’ repeated requests, Tehran is still failing to cooperate with the Agency and is undermining the latter’s oversight capacity by refusing to shed light on the possible military dimension of its nuclear program and by continuing to carry out work at the Parchin site, to which the Iranians are still refusing to provide access.

Together with all countries that share our views, we intend to express our concerns and reaffirm our support for the director general at the next meeting of the Board of Governors.
