Hungary - Central European University – Statement by Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs (6 April 2017)

I am concerned at the potential consequences that the amendments to the higher education law adopted in Hungary could have on the continued existence of the Central European University (CEU).

Indeed, this institution has been operating for more than 25 years in Budapest in cooperation with the entire European research and higher education community and now brings together approximately 1,500 students and many professors from all over the world, including French students and professors.

France does not want the continued existence of the Central European University to be called into question and will continue to monitor developments in the situation.
