Haiti – Reconstruction assistance (January 13, 2014)
Four years after the tragic earthquake of January 12, 2010, France stands alongside the Haitian people, with whom we share a common history, geography and language, and supports its reconstruction efforts.
Reconstruction projects still continue to be implemented with French assistance. Our action notably made it possible to initiate the renovation of the State University Hospital of Haiti and two neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince. Special efforts have been made in the area of education and higher education: 700 young Haitian people were able to continue their studies in France; a dozen academic institutions offering distance learning courses were established; a bilateral road map for the modernization of the state and the education sector in Haiti was adopted in October 2012 for the period 2013-2015. Guadeloupe, French Guyana and Martinique are especially mobilized.
Following the disaster, aid amounting to €326 million was mobilized by France.
France intends to remain a key partner of Haiti, with which our relations are developing in all areas.
