This morning, Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received his Egyptian counterpart, Nabil Fahmy. He reaffirmed the longstanding ties of friendship between France and Egypt that are based on dialogue and mutual respect.
The ministers discussed the situation in Egypt, bilateral relations, the Syrian crisis and the efforts to relaunch the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
Laurent Fabius indicated that France had taken note of the Egyptian government’s commitment to implementing the road map for the political transition, which establishes the goal of building a democratic state that guarantees freedom and justice for all Egyptians. He expressed the hope that this new stage would be marked by an easing of tensions and that all Egyptians would be able to peacefully express their opinions. France strongly encourages the establishment of aninclusive national dialogue that will make it possible to successfully complete the transition.
