Egypt – Violence (January 27, 2014)

France condemns the violence that has marked Egypt in recent days, leaving several people dead during terrorist attacks against the security forces and dozens more during demonstrations on the 3rd anniversary of the revolution of January 25, 2011.

France expresses its sympathy to the victims’ families. It reaffirms its condemnation of terrorism, irrespective of the perpetrators or motives.

France calls for respect for the freedom of assembly and the freedom to demonstrate and reaffirms the duty to exercise this right in a peaceful manner. It reaffirms its support for the process under way that should lead to the establishment of democratic and civilian institutions that will guarantee fundamental freedoms. These institutions must be open to all political movements that reject violence, in accordance with the commitments undertaken in the road map and the principles enshrined in the constitution.
