Denmark - Copenhagen terrorist attack - statement by Laurent Fabius (February 14, 2015)

A terrorist attack was committed today against a public meeting which the French ambassador to Denmark was attending.

Political relations

Political relations between France and Denmark are long-standing, sustained, and confident. The two countries are each other’s major partners both as allies and due to their common membership in the European Union. Their analyses also converge on many international political issues (peacekeeping, interest in preventive actions in Africa, international rule of law, environment).

Mrs. Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the Danish Prime Minister, held talks in Paris on February 20th, 2012 with the President of the Republic. There are regular talks at the Foreign Minister level (the Ministre d’État, Minister of Foreign Affairs received his counterpart, Mr. Søvndal, on November 30th, 2011), as well as at the Minister of European Affairs level: the Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Mr. Bernard Cazeneuve, received his Danish counterpart, Mr. Nicolai Wammen on May 24th, 2012.

Queen Margrethe II regularly visits France privately, as Prince Consort Henrik is of French origin. The sovereign met with the President of the Republic in November 2007.
