Laurent Fabius’s visit to China (May 16 to 19, 2014)
Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, visited China from May 16 to 19. He met with Prime Minister Li Keqiang and his counterpart, Wang Yi. This visit built on the momentum created by President Hollande’s state visit to China in April 2013 and that of President Xi to France in March 2014 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries.
Laurent Fabius visited Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai. He notably met with stakeholders in the tourist industry and Chinese investors, as well as the French business community. He also signed an agreement with the president of the Alibaba Group, the leading online retailer, in order to boost the international appeal of French brand products.
As part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations, the minister of foreign affairs and international development participated in the award ceremony for the winners of the mathematics competition and visited the “Ten Masterpieces of French Painting” exhibition. He also delivered a speech to students at Fudan University in Shanghai on the topic of climate change and preparations for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference; we would like to work closely with China on this issue.
