Cultural programme

Celebrations began on 27 January2014 with two high-profile events: a concert by the Republican Guard at the National Museum of China in Beijing and the “Nuit de Chine”, an evening of culture and festivities at the Grand Palais in Paris.

Highlights of the programme include grand heritage exhibitions:

• an exceptional collection of masterpieces from French national museums, displayed from April2014;

• retrospectives on Monet (March-June2014) and Rodin (from October2014) in China;

• a new exhibition by the painter YanPeiMing in Beijing (May-June2014);

• an exhibition on tea and wine that will be shown first in Beijing (May-June2014), then at the Château de La Celle-Saint-Cloud and in Paris later in the year;

• an exhibition on the Han Dynasty at the Musée Guimet in Paris (autumn2014);

• an exhibition on Chinese lacquerware at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris (Febuary-June2014).

This programme will extend to the field of craftwork. It will also feature a campaign to promote tourism in France, aimed at the Chinese public, with the launch of the “visas in48 hours” initiative on 27January2014.

Collaboration in business, research and innovation

Particular importance will be accorded to cooperation in the fields of business, research, innovation, technology and health. For example, a partnership has been set up to build a new Chinese-French sustainable city in Wuhan.

University study

There will be a clear focus on training, especially for young people, so as to lay the foundations for future collaboration.

New initiatives will be launched to promote exchanges between young people, such as public events at university campuses in China in cultural and scientific fields, attended by distinguished figures such as Cédric Villani, winner of the Fields Medal for mathematics, and the organization of a joint mathematics competition, offering winners the opportunity to visit China or France.
