Meeting between Laurent Fabius and his Chadian counterpart, Moussa Faki Mahamat (Paris, March 21, 2013)
March 21 Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Moussa Faki Mahamat, Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Integration of the Republic of Chad.
Chad is a key partner of France in central Africa; it is providing critical military support to Operation Serval in Mali. The minister therefore paid tribute to the commitment of Chadian soldiers alongside French forces. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the prospects for resolving the crisis, notably the efforts to establish a UN peacekeeping operation and to promote reconciliation and democracy in Mali.
The ministers also discussed the crisis in the Central African Republic, where the Economic Community of Central African States – which Chad currently chairs – is making substantial political and military efforts to find a peaceful solution.
Lastly, they discussed the regional security issues in the Sahel and notably the terrorist threat.
