Central African Republic - United Nations Security Council’s unanimous adoption of Resolution 2134 – Statement by Laurent Fabius (January 28, 2014)
France welcomes the United Nations Security Council’s unanimous adoption of Resolution 2134 on the Central African Republic.
The United Nations civilian office (BINUCA) is given the authority and resources to support the transitional government in swiftly organizing elections.
Resolution 2134 also authorizes the deployment of the European Union force, in support of the African force, MISCA [AFISM-CAR].
Finally, it establishes a regime of targeted sanctions against individuals who obstruct the transition process and the international community’s efforts to restore stability to the CAR.
