France welcomes the appointment of Babacar Gaye as UN Special Representative for the Central African Republic and Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
Mr. Gaye will be responsible for UN action on the ground to ensure the protection of civilians, ensure the stabilization of the country and help resolve the crisis. MINUSCA, which is already active on the ground in the civilian arena, will take over from the African Union force (MISCA) on September 15. Operation Sangaris and the European forces present in the Central African Republic will support it in the implementation of its mandate.
Mr. Gaye, whose action as head of the UN Integrated Peacebuilding Office in the Central African Republic (BINUCA) over the past year we commend, can count on France’s full support in carrying out his mission.
