CAR – Firing of three ministers (December 16, 2013)

France is concerned at the firing of three ministers, as well as the head of the Treasury Department, announced yesterday by Michel Djotodia, without the countersignature of Prime Minister Nicolas Tiangaye. This action, which goes against the constitutional charter for the transition and the Libreville agreements, is likely to further exacerbate instability in the Central African Republic.

The framework for the transition, and notably the prime minister’s prerogatives, must be respected.

France reaffirms that UNSCR 2127 paves the way for sanctions against those people who violate the transitional arrangements or whose action may serve to threaten or impede the political process.
