Closing of the EUPM in Bosnia and Herzegovina (July 2, 2012)

On the expiration of its mandate, we pay tribute to the work of the European Union Police Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (EUPM), the first police mission launched by the EU, and of its successive heads of mission and all of its personnel.

Its advisory, surveillance and support activities aimed at fighting organized crime constituted one of the main EU instruments for supporting the reform efforts of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the critical area of strengthening the rule of law.

The closing of this mission points to the significance of the progress achieved by the Bosnian authorities and their determination to take full control of these issues in order to continue the necessary efforts.

The EU will remain, for its part, strongly committed alongside them, notably through its EU Special Representative/ Delegate, who will this summer strengthen its expertise and capacities with respect to the rule of law.
