Bilateral trade remains low and is affected by the global crisis (€4.9 million in 2008, €2.6 million in 2009, and €1.8 million in 2010, i.e. down nearly 30% according to the Banque de France). Exports amounted to €1.2 million in 2010 (pleasure boats, alcohol, lifting equipment, and automotive equipment). Imports, amounting to €659 000, concern primarily seafood (shrimp). The Franco-British oil company Perenco (and particularly its Guatemalan subsidiary) received one of 17 logging concessions granted by the government.
Following the agreement between France and Belize on the exchange of tax information, in 2012 Belize was removed from France’s list of Non Cooperative Countries and Territories. Moreover, it remains the only Central American state with which France has not signed any agreement on encouraging and reciprocal protection for investments.
